Shotguns are one of the the best home defense weapon and the Gunsite Shotgun course offerings will prepare you to use your shotgun both in your home and outdoors.

Shotguns are made in a myriad of shapes, sizes and configurations, but the most commonly used in anti-personnel mode are either the pump/slide-action or self-loading/semi-automatic 12 guage.

The guage of a shotgun is measured by how many spherical lead balls of the bore diameter will be required to add up to one pound of lead.  In other words, 12 X 12 guage balls, 10 X 10 guage balls, 20 X 20 guage balls, etc.  The sole exception is the 410, an American invention, which measures .410″ in bore diameter.

The most oft-used slide-action, or pump guns currently in use are the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500/590 series, while the semi-automatic, or self=loading shotguns are dominated at this stage in ‘unconventional’ guns like the Benelli Super 90 and Beretta 1201.
