Direct Response to Violence SRO/LEO Only
There is no greater fear in our society than the loss of children to an Active Shooter. The prevailing expectation by communities is that law enforcement officers will deliberately risk their lives and take immediate action against violence directed at children and staff in our schools. While the expectation is high, the reality is that most law enforcement personnel are NOT trained to the level necessary to immediately move tactically to confront an Active Shooter and place precision shots on target without endangering, injuring, or killing the other persons in the immediate area. This class is designed specifically for School Resource Officers (SROs) and First-Responder LE personnel responding to an Active Shooter event.
This is a Shooting and Tactics course designed to train officers to move, shoot and communicate in the threat-filled environment of an Active Shooter event. The Program of Instruction includes:
- Advanced Pistol Marksmanship focusing on fast, accurate, shooting at distances consistent with school environments and against moving targets.
- Movement Tactics and Techniques focusing on single officer movement to contact with the shooter and the employment of accurate and effective fire.
- Rapid mental imagery processing to ensure Positive Identification of the shooter for targeting in an environment filled with non-threat individuals.
- Practical exercises focusing on the Locate – Isolate – Neutralize method of Active Shooter threat negation.
- Mental and physical site mapping for the most effective and response for getting to and confronting the Active Shooter.
- Understanding and applying the Priorities of Life response in the active shooter environment, namely, 1. Neutralize the shooter, 2. Treat the wounded, 3. Secure the scene.
This is a very dynamic course involving a lot of physical activity. Students should be capable of constant physical exertion over an 8-hour training day. This class focuses on Pistol Marksmanship as that is the primary firearm for SROs and others who may be rapidly interdicting an Active Shooter.
This course has been designed by Gunsite personnel considered experts in this arena, with significant personal experience in applying skills in gunfights.
*Important Note: Law Enforcement, School Security Officer, School Resource Officer, Military Law Enforcement only
Just returned from the inaugural Gunsite Performance Center 101 course. It was great! Not doctrine, and certainly not competition focused. Goal was to raise the performance level of each shooter by 15% as evidenced by multiple Wilson 5x5 runs....
