
Scoped Carbine
The Scoped Carbine course is a class designed for the shooter who wants to prepare their skill set for purposes other than home defense. Varmint hunting, longer range target shooting, and competition. The student will receive instruction on carbine manipulations, ballistic software, wind, multiple target engagements from 50 to 600 yards, shooting from supports, intermediate shooting positions, shooting with a sling, and moving targets. This is not a precision rifle course, so don’t feel you need an expensive gun. Most AR-15s with a 16 inch barrel will do with a good scope on them shooting medium to heavy bullets will do just fine in the class.
Weapon Requirements: Centerfire Semi auto carbine in 223, 6.5 CM, 260 Rem or .308 Win with a minimum barrel length of 16 inches, capable of effectively engaging targets out to 600 yards. Accuracy level of rifle and ammo:1.5- 2 MOA. Carbine must be able to accommodate a quick detachable bipod. Longer forearm style carbines are recommended.
Optics Requirement: Magnified optic with a hashed reticle with either a BDC reticle or adjustable turrets. Avoid chevron style reticles. Highly recommended that a 1-10X be minimum and the max being a 3-18X.
Equipment Requirements: Quick detachable bipod with an adjustment range of 9 to 13 inches, Rifle sling capable of “Cuffing Up”. Ballistic Software. GeoBallistics Premium version (phone or tablet) required, Binoculars required, Front and Rear rest bags, Shooting Matt, Knee pads, Elbow pads, eye and ear protection, 4 magazines, two magazine pouches, logbook, backpack to carry equipment. Appropriate clothing for the weather during the class dates. A lightweight soft rifle case plus a weather meter are recommended.
