Landen and I just took Nashville Simulations three day class at Royal Range and I wanted to give some feedback. Overall the course was about 1/3 square range and 2/3 shoot house. Ron ran us through drills that prepared us for “close encounters of the dangerous kind” ie. retention shooting, charging bad guys, retreating bad guys, shooting multiple targets at different ranges while moving/ reloading. While this was going on we rotated into the shoot house with different scenarios that Jeff setup. Your home, the mall, a restaurant and so on. This is where the magic happened. Landen and I both have a tendency to be overly aggressive and it showed in the simulations. Many times we took risk or exposed ourselves when “posting up”, going defensive, setup a kill zone and waiting for the police would have been the right thing. The foundation of the combat triad is mindset as you know. I find for me this is the hardest part and it usually takes me screwing up in a simulation to start to get it. Jeff’s post critique always stressed what you did right and pointed out what went wrong as well, followed with different examples of how to deal with the same problem. For me this was priceless. Bottom line this was the most intense “mind set” class I have taken. As always Ron and Jeff are mentors for us and thank you for letting Gunsite into our lives. See you in three weeks for Team Tactics
