Ring in the New Year!
“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney
As the world changes, so does what we do and what we offer at Gunsite… The Modern Technique as developed by Jeff Cooper over 48 years ago continues to be the basis of our teaching but evolved as needed. Despite what those who have never attended Gunsite comment on social media, we teach much more than just 1911 pistols and the Weaver stance.
We were blessed to close the 2023 year with another record student year and are well underway to beat 2023 in 2024 based upon the early enrollments. That being said, if there is a class date that is your only availability, we strongly recommend you get enrolled. While we make every effort to double a class when it fills, it is not always possible. Don’t miss out.
Construction has stopped for the winter. But existing maintenance picks up with repairs to shoot houses and outdoor simulators and stripping and waxing of classroom floors. The new parking lot has millings on it until warmer weather when it can be chip and sealed. We also await our meeting with Yavapai County to modify our zoning to be able to increase our student count and add more buildings.
Have you visited the Gunsite ProShop website? It went live just prior to Black Friday. As with every IT project I have ever been involved with, it had its bugs, but seems to have them worked out. However, if you find a bug or a problem, simply email proshop@gunsite.com to report it and get it sorted out. There are new products, clothing and the 2024 Challenge Coin.
Gunsite friend and family member, Tom Gresham, has invited me to be a guest on Gun Talk Radio this Sunday (7th) at 4:05 Eastern Time to visit. Tom is legendary in this industry and a great friend of Gunsite. Always listen to Tom but be sure to tune in to hear what he and I have to discuss.
January starts a bit slow, but the pace picks up quickly. A tutorial this week, the new Day Zero Pistol Sunday followed by a 250 Defensive Pistol next Monday. The best bargain at Gunsite is the Range Days. Pistol Range Day is January 13. (If you are a 3 day or more pistol class graduate, Range Days are a tremendous method of keeping your skills honed.) More tutorials follow along with a 150 Basic Pistol with our partner Royal Range in Nashville, 150 Pistol at Gunsite, Carbine Range Day followed by 556 Advanced Carbine. February ramps up even more.
SHOT Show 2024 is upon us, January 19th-22nd in Las Vegas. Gunsite will be there in force once again, walking (and walking and walking) the floor visiting with vendors, industry partners and Gunsite family. If you don’t know, the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT) is about the 5th largest trade shows in America. Look for Buz Mills, Dave Hartman, Shari LeGate, Lindy Walters, Shari Campbell, and myself. Then later in the week, the more tired we appear. You know we will have Gunsite pins in our pocket and love to do selfies to post on social media.
Enough for now as it is time to get back to work.
Embrace the New Year and remember one of my favorite sayings as we leave 2023 behind: “The windshield is bigger than the rear-view mirror for a reason.”
DVC,
Ken
