“FREEDOM LIES IN BEING BOLD”
-Robert Frost

Much to discuss this month.
With the information limited on the citizen intervening in the Idaho In-N-Out Burger active shooter, we choose not to say too much. However, if the early reports and photographs are accurate, a citizen chose to intervene along with an off-duty officer and helped take down the miscreant. Are you mentally and physical prepared to act should the need arise? As Gunsite Family Member Tom Gresham put on my new ball cap: “Make Americans Gunfighters Again.”
This dovetails nicely with the addition of a new class – Executive Protection. (https://www.gunsite.com/classes/executive-protection/) Taught by Steve Tarani and Wayne Black – subject matter experts in this field.
This is not a “bodyguard” course. A bodyguard is often viewed as someone who reacts to threats. A protective service professional prevents them.
This is not a basic training program. You will not learn “how to shoot.” In fact, you must qualify to get into the class. If you can score a 40 or less on the Wilson 5×5 drill, then you will be accepted. If you cannot pass the qualification you cannot participate.
*Important Prerequisite: No Class PreReq however, by applying for this course, you recognize it is not a beginner level class. Further, you also acknowledge that if you cannot score a 40 or less on the Wilson 5×5 drill you will be disqualified from the class with a partial refund or class credit.
Look to the link for details and consider how important your co-workers or family member are. They are “executives” and need to be protected.
Work on the campus is nearing completion of this phase. Gunsite Road will be getting a facelift this week with patching and fog sealing. If you travel in to class or the Pro Shop, WD40 will remove the materials from your car. The paving of the parking lot where the Maintenance Barn and Car Port were should begin next week.
The shade covers on the Hanneken, South and North Range Dozier Bays is beginning. It will be nice to have some shade for the class shoot offs and other training opportunities.
We hope to have this and a few other projects completed well-prior to the Gunsite Alumni Shoot (GAS Match) October 3.
I’ve warned and warned you about enrolling in GAS and getting your accommodations. We are about 360 enrolled in GAS. Don’t wait much longer to get your enrollment and sign up for the Steak Dinner as well.
A teaser or two for the Charity GAS Auction –
- The prototype Gunsite Glock Service Pistol (GGSP) will be up for auction with a letter of authenticity. This pistol was the original sent for approval and then sent to various gun scribes as they wrote their stories. It is one-of-a kind.
- A Gunsite 40th Anniversary 1911 with matching serial number copper challenge coin has been donated by a Gunsite Family Member. It is unfired!
- A few more of the wooden bathroom gun pegs, along with the letter verifying they came from the down range bathrooms.
Bring your cash, credit cards, check books or use the ATM in the Pro Shop!
Speaking of Pro Shop, more of the 50th Anniversary firearms have finally arrived. We have Daniels Defense 5.56 Pistols in 10.3” and 11” with the respective 50th Anniversary markings. Accessories are available including magazines lasered to the firearm, Aimpoint Optics and sling. https://gunsitestore.com/product-groups/firearms/50th-anniversary-firearms. Steyr advises us that the fifty (50) Steyr Scout Jeff Cooper Anniversary edition rifles are now on US soil, awaiting customs release. Many are already spoken for. https://gunsitestore.com/products/50th_steyr_scout_ii_308
Look to the link for details on the custom Fink Gunsite 50th Anniversary 1911, the Ruger RXM MOS pistol and the Shadow Systems with Aimpoint COA. All are marked accordingly with our 50th Anniversary logos.
There are many more 50th Anniversary items available as well: https://gunsitestore.com/product-groups/50th-items
A group of hard chargers just completed the two (2) day Sight-In Hunter Prep class in the heat. One very experienced hunter commented to me yesterday that this class was more than he had hoped for. I know the Hunter Prep Class along with a 270 Rifle Class helped me with my black bear hunt in May. Look to the 2027 calendar if you are thinking of a hunt next year.
The 250 Pistol Class is underway as I write this with 23 hardy souls facing some heat. (And yes, it is a dry heat! Coming from the Midwest, I’ll take our 95 degrees with 14% humidity over the Indiana 95 degrees with 95% humidity any day!) The 350 Intermediate Pistol with Optics is later this month along with another 250 Pistol and an Advanced Team Tactics for Two. The ever popular All Steel Pistol Range Day is August 22. If you enroll, bring ammo! No time wasted taping targets!
Some media events are also dove tailed into this month alongside some private classes.
Don’t look at the Phoenix weather and think it is the temperature at Gunsite. The Prescott area has always been one of the escapes for the Phoenix Valley to escape the heat.
If you are on the east coast area, we have a 250 Pistol Class at our industry partner Royal Range in Nashville TN. It is always sunny, 70 degrees and little humidity in the indoor range and shoot house. https://www.gunsite.com/classes/nashville-250-pistol-class/
The Indiana 150 Pistol Class was a success, and we will be returning again in 2027 for another 3 day Pistol 150 and a three (3) day 123 Carbine. (And I got to come off the bench and teach again!)
Speaking of 2027, the 2027 calendar is now available online. https://www.gunsite.com/events/category/gunsite-classes/2027-01/
If you enroll in 2026 for a 2027 class, you will not ay the tuition increase for 2027.
A good friend of Gunsite and strong supporter of the Second Amendment and gun scribe Greg Moats passed recently. He was a friend and supporter of the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation. He shall be missed.
We hope to see many of you celebrating Gunsite’s 50th Anniversary on October 3rd at GAS. Our excitement builds ad we fine tune our planning.
Remember to follow us on Facebook so you are kept current on the activities at Gunsite.
DVC,
Ken
