Another month has flown by here at Gunsite. The busier we are, the faster the weeks go by. We continue to have record months of student attendance. We cannot get the new facilities completed quick enough.
The new larger bathroom and shower passed another inspection this week and the roof should go on in the next few days. The bunkhouse is getting fine-tuned and should receive certificate of occupancy yet this month and then the first big move happens. Once we occupy the new Office and new Pro Shop, there is some talk of the Great Gunsite Garage Sale. (Well, OK, parking lot sale.) Stay tuned for details.
Our firearms industry partners (Mossberg, Riton Optics, Hollywood Weapons) are back again this month as well as our community partners Yavapai County Sheriff for media events and training.
Courses in June include 223 Carbine, Church Defense, Day Zero, 250 Pistol, 556 Advanced Carbine, Armed Women of America Instructor Development, Carbine Range Day, Active Shooter, Seasoned Citizen CQP, 150 Basic Pistol, and private classes round out the month.
Part of the construction here beyond our new buildings will be an overhaul of Gunsite Road. If you experience a brief delay as they rebuild and repave portions, please be patient. A downside of new pavement is folks tend to drive faster. Please remember that Gunsite Road, Grand View and Rolling Hills Road are neighborhoods to nice families, kids, pets, and occasional horse riding. Please drive in their neighborhoods as you would like others to drive in yours.
Father’s Day approaches. If you are looking for great gifts for dads, remember the Gunsite Pro Shop. There will be a sale announced shortly on a variety of products. But the “one size fits all” gift is a Gunsite Training Gift Certificate! Better yet how about “making memories” with you and Dad/Granddad? Come and train together. I have done so with my sons and do not regret one minute nor the expense. As one grandmother said to me as she watched her grandson train as a graduation gift: “I could have got him a car or something else, but he will remember this with me forever.”
Another GAS Match planning meeting conference call with industry partners planning their side matches and prizes to donate. GAS will be here soon, have you enrolled yet?
The annual Stephanie Calams Pistol Match is on June 17. It is a fun, fast-paced match, and lunch on a Saturday morning along with a silent auction. Also, the scholarships are awarded to the local students. Look to the Gunsite website for a link to enroll. https://www.stephaniescholarship.org/gunsite-combat-competition.html
It looks like the greatest distance for a Raven hat contest was a little over 8,000 miles and Bob Shimizu was the winner (India). It was a challenge as people sent me Facebook message, emails, comments on Facebook posts, etc. It was difficult to keep them all. So, a new hat to Bob Shimizu! What can be our next unusual contest?
Enough for June. July and Independence Day are just around the corner. Start planning how to best celebrate on July 4!
In closing let me say: “When are you coming to Gunsite?”
