Where does the time go?
Another month behind us and we continue to look forward to the rest of 2025. As always, where did the last month go?
Construction continues at a fast pace at the Gunsite Ranch. The new Mess Deck is well underway and possibly being occupied before the June Newsletter goes out.
It is twice as big as the current Mess Deck and will be much more comfortable. The building permit process continues for the new Warehouse/Maintenance Barn. We want these projects behind us (and the conversion of the old Pro Shop to Classroom) prior to our 50th Anniversary next year.
Fresh back from the National Rifle Association (NRA) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, I am excited about the future of the NRA. Buz Mills spearheaded the reform movement (NRA 2.0) and the team came out strong with a clear majority on the Board of Directors and Officers. There is hope and good things are going to happen. https://home.nra.org/statements/bill-bachenberg-elected-nra-president-doug-hamlin-unanimously-reelected-as-nra-executive-vice-president-ceo/
Buz Mills was voted as a Member of the Executive Committee. This is a great honor as it is a lifetime appointment and has significant responsibilities. Congratulations to Buz. This is well-deserved.
I try to remind my fellow police officers periodically of the benefits of them joining the NRA. Beyond the reduced membership rate, there is an NRA LEO Line of Duty Death Benefit. There are many more benefits to consider. https://le.nra.org/officer-benefits-from-the-nra/
Considerations of the state of the world include some large ammunition seizures and arrests by law enforcement in the west and northwest United States. These shipments were transported by illegal aliens. Does it mean something? I cannot say for sure, but as an old friend at the Sheriff’s Office used to say: “I don’t know much, but I suspect a lot.” Remember the Color Code and the Principles of Personal Defense.
Industry partner Silencer Central now offers a brief video discussion during lunch one day of the week of a Gunsite 250 class. This voluntary conference lasts 10-15 minutes, including questions. At the conclusion, one of the attendees wins a free $200 tax stamp from Silencer Central for one of their suppressors. Silencer Central was the pioneer for simplifying your paperwork with ATF. My most recent purchase, including the Trust, was 31 days until my equipment was delivered to my home.
The inaugural Gunsite Performance Center 101 Class was last weekend, and it was a resounding success. This new division at Gunsite focuses on quickness and accuracy. It is not competition based, but rather going into great detail on how you can shave portions of a second off your presentation and shots and make them more accurately. Another 101 is scheduled soon! Busy times in May with The Jeff Cooper 1911 Anniversary 250 Class, Team Tactics for Two, Shotgun Range Day, the 370 Advanced General Rifle, the ever-popular All-Steel Pistol Range Day, another double 250 Pistol Class and multiple private classes. It doesn’t slow down any in June.
In closing, be sure to offer thanks to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice as we recognize them on Memorial Day. Too many think of this as another day off to BBQ or watch the Indianapolis 500. This holiday is to honor and mourn the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the US Military. Show appropriate respect.
Enough for this month.
When are you coming (back) to Gunsite?
DVC,
Ken
