October is the most difficult month to get the newsletter out on time, as the Gunsite Alumni shoot is always the first weekend in October and we are busy with full 250, 350 and this year 599 Advanced Pistol classes. Clients come from across the country to compete and learn in one of the most unique matches in the firearms industry. The GAS match is a learning experience for all, as well as a good time, frequently interrupted by gunfire.
The match was sponsored by Blade-tech, our major sponsor contributing over $6000 in fine holsters and knives. Blade-tech has been a sponsor of the GAS match for over a decade, and they continue to support this event in a huge way.
Another corporate sponsor of the GAS match this year is our good neighbor Sturm Ruger, who contributed firearms from each of their 3 plants across the country. Students competed to win a Ruger Scout Rifle, a Ruger American in .308, a Ruger American in .22LR and two Ruger SR 9mm pistols.
Mossberg donated two shotguns for the side match, one a semi-auto and the other a pump. Glock has generously given us a Glock 19 Gen4 and Colt sent us an AR15 and a Colt 1911 Rail gun. Thanks to Leupold two of the guns had great Leupold scopes.
Other sponsors of the match are Galco, LaserMax, Dillon Precision and Smith and Wesson. All of the proceeds from the side matches go to the Yavapai Friends of NRA and the Cooper Legacy Foundation.
Katie Pavlich from Townhall and Fox news was here for the match. Katie is a huge supporter of our 2nd amendment and is a multiple Gunsite graduate. She signed 100 copies of her new book ‘Assault and Flattery’ and of course last year’s big hit ‘Fast and Furious’. These books can be purchased from our ProShop.
The 2015 calendars are here and they will be mailed as soon as possible. Stand by to receive yours in the next few weeks, or stop in at the office and pick one up.
Check out our facebook page for pictures from the training classes the week before GAS and the final scores from the match are attached to this email. Verlin Rector took 1st Place, Chad Timney 2nd and Russ Shumate third. The middle shooter was Kyle McConnell, and he took home the Colt Gunsite Pistol. Middle shooter is not the middle person between 1-150, but the middle score between the top score and the bottom score after all the incomplete scores have been deleted. The Cooper Cup was won by Dave White with a record 185 points.
October 2014 began my 16th year of Gunsite’s operation and it’s 39th year in history. You folks are what make all this possible and I and the staff are humbled by your loyalty. Enjoy your October, culminating in Halloween. Then it is on to the celebrations at the end of the year.
Be sure to take a youngster out to shoot several times this fall. The weather is beautiful and you will get a real kick out of it as will the youngster. We just had a 14 year old young lady shoot the GAS Match with her dad. Needless to say she was High Junior. Our children are our future.
Travel safe, we look forward to your return.
