This class was very intensive, both mentally and physically. Being somewhat new to the basic AR platform, I learned how to run it properly, and make first-round hits on practical targets out as far as 300 yards, although most of the shooting focused on 200 yards and under. A lot of it was shot from intermediate positions, such as kneeling, squat, sitting, prone, in addition to a few other positions that are not seen very often. There was plenty of standing as well. How to correctly move into those positions was covered extensively. The class featured lots of build-up to going into the shoot houses, and focused on necessary footwork and observation skills to take students through, under the guidance of an instructor. Outdoor simulators were presented, and quite fun, as was the night portion of the class with the introduction to searching techniques using flashlights. Day five had shooting for score, a class shoot-off competition among the students, and other shooting activities. The instructor cadre was excellent, and led by RM Walt Wilkinson. All these instructors bring real-world experience and leadership to add to the experience. I hope to take this course again, as there is a LOT of material presented, and to continue to build my skills.
